Grizzled skipper - Pyrgus malvae

 

Family: Hesperiidae.

Flight Time: April/June, July/August.

Size: 22-26mm

Altitude: 0-1900m
The UKs only Grizzled skipper, which makes identification rather easier. Very difficult to follow in flight due to the blurring of their chequered upperside, they almost disappear on take off!

Right is the southern subspecies malvoides.
