Large chequered skipper - Heteropterus morpheus
![]() |
Family: Hesperiidae Flight Time: June - July Size: 32-38mm Altitude: 0-1000m
|
| Notes: This little skipper was photographed in Brittany where I've seen them a number of times, they seem to like most habitat but are most common down grassy forest rides. To make sure this one was nice and sharp I lay down in the bracken, unfortunately the ground was rather full of ticks and I had to remove ten when I got back later, worth the pain though ! No risk of confusion with any other species in Europe. Their peculiar bobbing flight alone is enough to identify them. |
