Small heath - Coenonympha pamphilus
![]() |
Family: Satyridae Flight Time: March-November Size: 26-34mm Altitude: 0-2700m |
A very common species, and widespread too. This was on some wasteground nearby and was an early experiment with a 210mm macro lens. It is a small species so I was very pleased with the size of the image. The one above is very cropped and reduced, it could fill the screen if necessary! There are a number of other 'Heaths' in Europe, see Coenonympha arcania and Coenonympha vaucheri.
