'Turkish' meadow brown - Maniola telmessia

| It took a while to figure this one out. I have to admit at the time I though it was just a Gatekeeper (Pyronia spp.) or Meadow brown (Maniola jurtina) and it wasn't until I had a good look at the photo that I noticed it wasn't quite right. The new edition of the Collins Field guide to European butterflies covers this species which is found on a few Greek islands as well as Turkey. It hasn't a common name, so perhaps Turkish meadow brown would suffice. |
