Knapweed fritillary - Melitaea phoebe

Knapweed fritillary

Family: Nymphalidae

Flight Time: April - September

Size: 34 -50mm

Altitude: 0 - 1900m

Quite distinctive with the light hindwing postdiscal spots, shared with the Glanville fritillary, Melitaea cinxia. A beautiful species though.

No black spots at the wingtip on the underside (see right) and no black in the row of orange spots helps distinguish from the Glanville fritillary.
