Titania's fritillary - Clossiana titania

Upperside.

Family: Nymphalidae

Flight Time: June - August

Size: 42-48mm

Altitude: 300-1800m

Form cypris Titania's fritillary is the biggest of the Clossiana genus and comes in two distinct forms. The much deeper markings of the form cypris are shown to the right.

Just one of the many fritillaries to be found in Alpine meadows in Valais, very beautiful, but tough to identify.

Mark Ogden took this underside photo in the Dolomites.
