False heath fritillary - Melitaea diamina
![]() |
Family: Nymphalidae Flight Time: May - September Size: 32 - 42mm Altitude: 100-2000m |

A much darker version of the Heath fritillary, there is very little orange at all. I only saw one specimen during my trip to Switzerland in 1999, but it is not a particularly local species. The pictured butterfly was actually in the Pyrenees near Gèdre. |
